WORK-IN-PROGRESS HOME IS
WHERE THE
ART IS

Leo, my sweetheart forever, volunteers as the Innkeeper in "The Halfway House" at Black Creek Pioneer Village - a living history museum in Toronto.  Here's a photo I took of him in his 1860's costume.  Just for fun, I've changed the name of the inn in my painting.

Snowbell Inn

This photo of Leo was taken in front of the Halfway House (Inn)

Step One
Initial scribbles on canvas!

Step Two
Blocking in some shapes and colours - just to get a start

Step Three
A little work on getting the windows in ... the barrel, hitching post, etc.  I've got a long way to go!

Step Four
More work on the barrel ... it's hard to get it round!  Got the windows and siding started ... more work on the trees.  Putting some shadows in starts to help it shape up a bit.

Step Five
Trying to zero in on the details.  Lots of work on the top railing and lamp-post. I'm leaving Leo for later ... he'll be my reward!

Step Six
Subtle changes ... probably not too noticeable, but every bit helps.  Buildings are not easy!

Step Seven
Started to work on Leo ... and fiddled with some of the other details - lots of dark and light adjustments.

Step Eight
I've got it all together now ... completed and SIGNED!
