My first trip
to Israel was in 1989 as a volunteer in the SarEl Volunteers for Israel
Program. As a SarEl volunteer, I worked on an army base, first doing
break-jobs on Jeeps, and then doing inventory in the parts warehouse.
Some of the perks on this program were occasional bus trips to interesting
tourist sites and attractions. This photo was taken at one of the bus
stops - I loved the serenity of this view!
Northern Israel

Photographed
from a bus stop in Northern Israel - 1989.

|
Step One
I never painted much scenery, but found my photograph to be calling out
to me - "Paint me! Paint me!" |

|
Step Two
After blocking in
the shapes, I tried to get a sense of what colours to use to capture the
scene. Not perfect ... but a start. |

|
Step Three
I had fun doing the
sky ... and even more fun trying to do the trees. The foreground
remains pretty blah. |

|
Step Four
At least I got rid
of that hideous yellow road! Started to add a bit more definition
to the rocks and trees. |

|
Step Five
More and more
tweaking and details added ... but I know there's lots more to be done. |

|
Step Six
Darker, lighter,
darker, lighter ... I worked to get the rocks and pebbles to look
"real". Completed and SIGNED! |
