I gathered up a few of my
favourite puzzles - the jump-a-peg ... Rubik's cube ... Sudoku ... metallic
brain teaser ... and jigsaw pieces. I set them all up in what I felt
was a pretty good composition - and took a photograph. I knew it was
going to be tough on the nerves to capture it all in a painting, but decided
to accept the challenge!

I
photographed some of my puzzles |

Step One
I tried to figure out some
perspective ... I think that doing this just added to my confusion. |

Step Two
I blocked in shapes and colour.
This step always feels good, even though it reinforces the fact that
I'm in for some tooth-grinding. |

Step Three
A bit more definition ...
even added some shadows to help the jump-a-peg pieces pop out a bit.
|

Step Four
A little more work on the
cube ... and jump-a-peg pieces. I'm anxious to work on the
metal-twister. |

Step Five
Very subtle changes here ... I worked mostly on the jigsaw pieces! |

Step Six
Did a lot of work on this
... got the Sudoku numbers (and blanks) in place, did a lot of
fixing up in other places ... and got metal looking like metal! |

Step Seven
There were many more
"steps" in-between those recorded here ... too many to mention.
At this stage, I adjusted the darks and lights and tweaked a lot of
the little details. This painting is now complete ... and
SIGNED at last. |
