When Leo was 17 he had a summer job as a busboy on the SS Noronic. One year
later, on September 17, 1949, this spectacular cruise ship met with
disaster. This ship, nicknamed "Queen of the Lakes" cruised the Great
Lakes from the time of her launch in 1913 in Port Arthur, Ontario, until
she was destroyed by fire at Pier 9 in Toronto Harbour on September 17,
1949. Over 125 lives were lost.
