WORK-IN-PROGRESS HOME IS
WHERE THE
ART IS

When Leo was 17 he had a summer job as a busboy on the SS Noronic. One year later, on September 17, 1949, this spectacular cruise ship met with disaster.  This ship, nicknamed "Queen of the Lakes" cruised the Great Lakes from the time of her launch in 1913  in Port Arthur, Ontario, until she was destroyed by fire at Pier 9 in Toronto Harbour on September 17, 1949.  Over 125 lives were lost.

The S.S. Noronic

Step One
Pencil drawing on canvas

Step Two
Blocked in the shapes and colours to give me a start.

Step Three
Subtle changes seen here ... working on sky and water.

Step Four
Still working on sky and water ... and trying to define the ship's features.

Step Five
Struggling to get the little details of the ship painted.  There were many more steps taken that aren't recorded here ... until this painting was complete ...

Step Six
Tweaked! Tweaked! Tweaked! ... and SIGNED!
